PRP Hair Treatments
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections can be effective in treating male pattern baldness, both in preventing hair loss and promoting new hair growth. PRP can also aid in the stimulation of hair growth after hair transplants.
HOW IT WORKS
To create platelet-rich plasma, clinicians take a blood sample from the patient and place it into a device called a centrifuge that rapidly spins the sample, separating out the other components of the blood from the platelets and concentrating them within the plasma.
Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets, a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body. Platelets are well-known for their clotting abilities, but they also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area. Platelet-rich plasma is simply blood that contains more platelets than normal.
WHAT TO EXPECT
PRP treatments are done in the office and take about 75 minutes. Approximately 30ml of your blood will be drawn and then the centrifuge process takes about 10 minutes to prepare PRP. Because PRP injections are somewhat uncomfortable most of our patients choose to have anesthesia cream prior to the treatment. After the treatment area has been numbed Dr. Anna will administer the PRP treatment which takes approximately 15 minutes. After the PRP injections are complete we apply cold compresses as you relax for approximately 15 minutes before being discharged.
After your PRP treatment, your scalp will stay numb for approximately one hour and may feel heavy or tight. You may have a headache. Also, it is normal for your scalp to be sore and mildly swollen for a few days especially when pressed or massaged.
Treatments are typically scheduled monthly for a few months. Patients can expect to begin noticing improvement within two to three months. After the initial series of treatments, injections are repeated every three to six months depending on individual response and results.
The initial effect that patients may notice after treatment is that they shed fewer hairs. Over time, they can expect to see an increase in thickness and length.

WHAT TO EXPECT
